You can adopt a lion at The Lions Foundation at a minimum donation of €120 / $130 / ZAR2000 per year.

If you adopt an animal at the foundation, you will receive a digital passport of the lion of your choice and an adoption certificate.

Donations to The Lions Foundation are used to cover costs and investments involving:

  • Day-to-day care of lions in The Lions Foundation sanctuary, including security;
  • The rescue by Stichting Leeuw of lions in need, including transport, medication, costs associated with the rescue venue, etc.;
  • The release of lions back into the (semi) wild, including fencing;
  • Veterinary costs;
  • Scientific research projects involving the natural behaviour of the rehabilitated lions;
  • Educational projects.

The adoption of one of the lions living at The Lions Foundation sanctuary is symbolic. Donation proceeds can benefit more than one specific animal. Any given lion can therefore be adopted by several different people.

To adopt please make a donation to The Lions Foundation of at least the minimum amount mentioned above. If you’d like to receive an adoption certificate and a lion passport, please send an email to
