The Lions Foundation is a subsidiary of Stichting Leeuw, a big cat rescue centre and sanctuary, located in the north of The Netherlands. The foundation is located in the middle of Schrikkloof Nature Reserve, in the Limpopo province of South Africa.

The Lions Foundation rescues and shelters big cats from circuses, private ownership, zoos and animal parks. Its aim is to rehabilitate these predators to their natural habitat, in large enclosures, as these big cats cannot survive in the wild. The Stichting Leeuw lions that are healthy enough to undertake the long journey, have been and will be relocated to The Lions Foundation.

The Lions Foundation’s mission:

  • Provide a sanctuary, a permanent home for rescued lions from Stichting Leeuw;
  • Rescue and shelter other lions in need;
  • Conduct behavioural research to continually improve the comfort of the animals;
  • Educate visitors on the lions, to teach them how they can help the feline predators.

The Lions Foundation aims to
rehabilitate lions in need from
all over the world to their
natural habitat.

The Lions Foundation is
located in Schrikkloof
Nature Reserve.
