Last week our caretakers at The Lions Foundation became worried when our dear lioness Isolde didn’t show up for breakfast. They went in search for her and discovered her body deep into the large enclosure. She had a deep bite wound in her throat and had passed away.

Extensive autopsy in our vet Dr. Peter Caldwell’s clinic revealed that Simba, Isolde’s life partner, must have inflicted this wound, which had caused Isolde to pass away quickly. No other clinical abnormalities were found which could have led to this unexpected attack.

Everybody at The Lions Foundation and Stichting Leeuw is extremely upset. The foundations are now researching what could have led to this unexpected behaviour. Simba and Isolde had been a great couple for 10 years and were always together, with no signs of aggression, until this sad incident.

Rest in peace Isolde, you will be dearly missed!
